January 9, 2012 was an important day to all those who consider themselves Mythical beasts. On that fateful Monday morning, YouTube creators Rhett & Link launched Good Mythical Morning, a daily variety show filled with fun, food, and above all, friendship. With the premiere of Season 21 on January 10th, 2022, the show marks its 10th anniversary and an incredible span of over 2,000 episodes.
“ We’re not saying we’re immortal, we’re just saying we’re eternally grateful to be here. That’s a testament to our fans, many of whom have grown up along with our show. It’s also a testament to our team and the power of the YouTube Platform.”
Rhett & Link
“A decade is an eternity in Internet years,” said Rhett & Link. “We’re not saying we’re immortal, we’re just saying we’re eternally grateful to be here. That’s a testament to our fans, many of whom have grown up along with our show. It’s also a testament to our team and the power of the YouTube Platform. Good Mythical Morning is only getting better, and Mythical Entertainment is just getting started.”
Rhett & Link began their rise in 2006, when the duo posted comedy videos on YouTube. Those early efforts grew into the creators’ highly successful media company, Mythical Entertainment, which has become a model for creator-led, creator-owned, wholly independent businesses. Mythical’s YouTube channels — including Good Mythical Morning and the sketch comedy of Smosh — have over 75 million subscribers and 26 billion lifetime views.
Over the past decade, Rhett & Link’s Good Mythical Morning has featured major creators and celebrities including Liza Koshy, Markiplier, Terry Crews, Jack Black, Megan Fox and more. Some of GMM’s most popular work also includes various ongoing series. In Will it?, Rhett & Link taste culinary twists on a singular food item. And in Gut Check, the friends taste an entire lineup of a brand’s offerings in rapid fire succession, giving a “gut check” score between 0-100 to gauge the top flavor/product.
In no particular order, here are some of the Mythical Crew’s most memorable episodes:
Will It Taco?
The very first Will It? episode back in Season 5 of the summer of 2014 was pretty tough to stomach (jump to 8:48 for the video proof). No Mythical Kitchen team in sight meant shoving pine needles into hard-shell tacos.
Eating The World's Hottest Pepper: Carolina Reaper
With over 30 million views, this episode from Season 6 in the fall of 2014 delivers pain all around– both for Rhett & Link, who survived eating the Carolina Reaper, and for viewers, who most likely experienced their own stomach cramps while doubled over in laughter.
Post Malone Nursery Rhyme Raps
2018 kicked off with a bang – or rather, some “bang-ers” – when the show invited GMM superfan Post Malone on the show to try his hand at turning popular nursery rhymes into rap masterpieces.
Putting Weird Things Through A Water Filter
Back in spring 2018, Season 13, GMM tackled the question of what happens when you put everything other than water through a water filter? From Mountain Dew to window cleaner, Rhett and Link came through with the answers.
Alternate Universe Snacks
2020 felt like we were living in an alternate universe, which made GMM think – what do they eat in alternate universes? We have Flamin' Hot Cheetos here...so do they have Freezin' Cold Cheetos there?
Last year, Mythical launched the Mythical Creator Accelerator, a first-of-its-kind $5M venture capital and growth equity fund dedicated to backing and advising the next generation of creator-owned and led media companies.
Today, Rhett & Link continue to grow their company into the epitome of creator-led media, lifestyle, and commerce. What started out in a garage now occupies 40,000 square feet of studio space in Los Angeles and employs 120 people. This team supports the company’s expansion into new properties like Mythical Kitchen, high-quality brand partnerships, a thriving ecommerce business, unscripted and scripted podcasts, and live events and tours. Last year, Mythical launched the Mythical Creator Accelerator, a first-of-its-kind $5M venture capital and growth equity fund dedicated to backing and advising the next generation of creator-owned and led media companies. The company also runs the Mythical Society, a membership-based fan club for the most ardent Mythical fans.
“This is how we see it: We’re internet pioneers who’ve established an outpost on the leading edge of entertainment. (And, yes, it’s also a large studio in lovely Burbank, California.) Who can say exactly what the future holds, but we can say Mythical will be there for it,” said Rhett & Link.
Rhett & Link and the Mythical world they’ve created is truly a homegrown success story that shows how creators on YouTube can produce a diversity of content — all while building community and earning money from multiple revenue streams.
Good Mythical Morning has grown to be one of the biggest daily shows online thanks to the ongoing creativity and ingenuity of its stars and team.
Here’s to 10 more amazing years ahead.
